ISLAMABAD, Oct 21: The Wapda has decentralized its pension payment and reluctant claims settlement system whereas the power wing has been split into 12 companies to facilitate the employees within the corporate entities and the residual setup, the spokesman for the Wapda said.

With the decentralization of the Wapda Pension Directorate, the distribution and generation companies, National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) and Wapda itself will now be governed by their respective pension cells for the settlement of pension claims and pension payment to their employees.

The new structural system will become fully operative from November 1, 2002.

The pension directorate, renamed as Wapda Pension Cell (WPC), will look after the activity for officers and officials for power wing other than corporate entities, water wing, common services and the authority secretariat, he added.

The Cell will continue to review the pension cases before July 1, 1998 and employees of DISCOs, GENCOs, and NIDC retired before March 1, 1999. The cell will be liable to accept their pension claims.

The employees of the corporate entities, retired after the above dates, will be the liability of the corporate entity concerned, the spokesman added.

The WPC, Lahore will also perform the duties of policy matters, circulation of authority’s instructions and advisory service regarding pension matters.

It will also provide guidance to corporate entities in case of any doubt about interpretation of any rule, regulation, instruction or decision of the authority.
