RAWALPINDI, Oct 21: No teaching sessions were held in the government schools and colleges in Rawalpindi on Monday as teachers and professors boycotted the classes while protesting against the proposed educational reforms.
The strike call was given by the Schools-Colleges Teachers Alliance, which had termed the educational reforms as a conspiracy against the coming generations of the poorer sections of the society.
The teachers and professors held gatherings at the Gordon College and Viqarun Nisa College for Women in protest against the proposed formation of the Board of Governors in the educational institutions.
Union leaders of the teachers community visited various schools and colleges to ensure complete boycott of classes.
“The proposed boards are not acceptable to us under any circumstances,” they said.
The teachers alliance has decided to boycott the classes on every Monday and Thursday.
