ISLAMABAD, Oct 21: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has prepared a PC-I of Rs176.48 million for the establishment of a women police station and residences of police officials at H-11 sector.
The PC-I of the project has been prepared on the directives of the interior ministry for providing accommodation facility to police personnel.
A CDA official said the PC-I had been sent to the interior ministry for approval. He said the government had asked the CDA in 1994 to prepare a comprehensive plan for providing accommodation facility to the police officials.
According to the PC-I, a women police station, residences for inspector general, senior superintendents, assistant superintendents and deputy superintendents would be constructed.
The project would be completed within the stipulated time of 36 months, the CDA official said.
He said accommodation facility would also be provided to 105 women police personnel. He said a three-storied barrack and a women police station would also be constructed. Similarly, a dining hall would be built with a capacity to accommodate 200 people.
A source said the capital police personnel were facing accommodation problem. He said majority of the low-salaried police personnel were residing in Rawalpindi as they could not afford skyrocketing rents in Islamabad.
Meanwhile, an official in the Estate Office (EO) told Dawn that some 70 government houses in the capital had been illegally occupied by officials of the local police and district administration.
He said these police officials were not entitled to acquire these houses, and had also not obtained prior approval from the EO in this regard.
Responding to a query, the source said an ordinance was being promulgated under which the EO officials would be empowered to take necessary action against the illegal occupants of the government houses.
He said besides political leaders, officials of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration, local police and even retired officials of the CDA had also occupied government houses.
