KARACHI, Oct 21: Police shot an alleged bandit to death in North Karachi on Monday, in what they claimed an encounter.

Police said that two suspects were prowling in sector 15-B in North Karachi. When they saw two policemen, riding on a motorcycle, approaching them, they opened fire at them and tried to escape.

The policemen returned the fire critically injuring one of the suspects, identified as Javed, aged 26. The other suspect, identified as Abdul Rahman, aged 22, was arrested.

The injured suspect was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Police claimed to have recovered a pistol from the possession of one of the suspects.

The incident took place in front of house No R-497 in North Karachi.

KILLED: A woman, Qamrun Nisa, aged 40, was found murdered in her house in Garden area on Monday.

Police said that the woman’s throat was slit with a sharp-edged weapon. Neighbours found her dead in her house. The body was sent to Civil Hospital.

ARRESTED: Police claimed on Monday to have arrested a wanted suspect after a brief exchange of fire with him in Singhu Lane, Lyari.

Ishaq Laskari, a notorious criminal and drug peddler, was arrested at his hideout in Chakiwara, Lyari.

Police said that the suspect was wanted in 33 criminal cases, including 16 of murder and eight of kidnapping for ransom. Police claimed to have recovered an assault rifle from his possession.
