ISLAMABAD, Oct 19: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Saturday withheld notification of eight National Assembly and nine provincial assembly constituencies.
The EC which took up complaints about alleged rigging and malpractice in the general elections ordered repolling in Na-255 Karachi-XVII, NA-125, Lahore-VIII, NA-47, Tank-Tribal Area-XII, PS-118 Karachi-XXX, PS-103 Karachi-XV, and PS-15 Jacobabad-III.
The EC in a late night announcement said that the notification of these afore-mentioned constituencies would be issued after the re-counting.
However in the case of NA-245 Karachi-VII, NA-143 Okara, NA- 117 Narowal, PP-135 Narowal-IV and PS-83 Sanghar-VI the petition filed before the commission were admitted for regular hearing. In these constituencies too the notification of returned candidates would not be issued till the disposal of the election petitions.
The commission ordered re-polling at one polling station, set up at Government Primary School Kali Dhar PF-46, a constituency of NWFP assembly.
On another petition the commission directed returning officer for PP-205 Multan to re-tabulate the result of the constituency in the presence of contesting candidates and to communicate the same to the election commission.
The commission also ordered inquiries by a senior officer of election commission in NA-263 Loralai, PB-14 Loralai, PS-62 Tharparker-III and NA-235 Sanghar and in these cases too the notification were held back.
It also withheld notification of the successful candidate from PB-48 Kech-I and called for report from the concerned returning officer.
On yet another complaint from a contesting candidate the commission called for report from returning officer PS-30 Khairpur, Principal St Paul High School Karachi and Registrar University of Karachi regarding alleged bogus degree of the returned candidate. The name of winning candidate would not be notified from this constituency as well.
From this constituency a PPP candidate had challenged the degree of Pakistan Muslim League (Functional) candidate.
