ISLAMABAD, Oct 8: The national volleyball camp resumed here at the Pakistan Sports Complex Monday after a 10-day break.
Maj (Retd) Muhammad Afzal, secretary of the Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) said that 12 players had reported for training while another six were expected to join soon.
Following the postponement last month of the SAF Games, the PVF, like most other federations, had temporarily wound up their training camp.
Afzal said that the training of the spikers would now continue till the start of the SAF Games which were rescheduled for March 30 Saturday.
He said that the Ukrainian coach with the Pakistan team had no intention of going home unlike most of the other foreign coaches. Eight coaches including four Chinese, three Bulgarians and a Britisher, went on leave after terrorists struck in the United States on September 11, events that left Pakistan in grip of tension.
Afzal said that the Pakistan team would compete in the Al- Rashid International Tournament in Dubai from March 12 to 18 next year. “This will give the boys a good opportunity to warm-up for the SAF Games.”
Meanwhile other training camps are also due to restart from October 12, Muhammad Ishfaq, Deputy Director General of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) said. However, he added that preparations of table tennis, badminton, kabbadi and the squash teams would resume next year.
The boxing camp is to start in Karachi from October 10 while the rowers have continued their training uninterrupted at the picturesque Rawal Lake.
The SAF Games which were originally scheduled to start last Saturday, will have competitions in 15 disciplines that also include athletics, football, shooting, swimming, taekwondo, weightlifting, wrestling and karate.
