KARACHI, Oct 18: Fourth seed Jehanzeb Masood upset second seed Asad Riaz in the semifinal of the Under-19 Sindh Ranking squash championship at Pakistan Navy Roshan Khan/Jahangir Khan Squash Complex Friday.
He will now meet top seed Karamatullah in the final to be played Saturday.
Karamatullah of Karachi was taken to full distance by fellow Karachiite and third seed Muhammad Qasim before cruising into the final.
In a match lasting 78-minutes, Karamat started well by taking the opening game but Asad took the next to draw level.
The next two games were in almost similar fashion. But in a thrilling and gruelling extended final game Karamat turned the tables by wrapping the final game and the match 15-11, 5-15, 15-9, 13-15, 17-16.
In the other semifinal Jehanzeb also of Karachi produced a sterling performance to subdue Asad Riaz 15-11, 15-13, 15-7 in mere 37 minutes.
Promising Jehanzeb played powerful strokes, nicks and drops to eliminate Asad.
Second seed Muhammad Naeem will take on fourth Zohaib Ahmed in boys under-15 final.
Zohaib caused a stir in the event when he toppled top seed Yasir Khan in straight games. Playing better brand of the game Zohaib won 15-9, 15-13, 15-6.
Second seed Muhammad Naeem kept his seeding intact when he recovered after dropping the first game to overpower third seed Khurram Shahzad 16-17, 15-9, 15-6, 15-10.
In the girls under-19 semi finals, two top seeds Sadia Riaz of Karachi and Sumaira Haq Arian of Sukkur moved into the final.
Top seed Sadia defeated Asha Ghayyur of Sukkur 9-3, 9-0, 9-0 in just 17 minutes and Sumaira lost the opening game before overcoming Zareen Haq Arian of Sukkur 3-9, 9-5, 9-1, 9-0.—APP
