GHALANAI, April 22: A pro-government tribal elder was gunned down and a girl child was killed in a landmine explosion in Mohmand agency on Friday.

The militants kidnapped Malak Sher Khan alias Sheray from his house in Gakizai area of tehsil Lakkaro on Thursday night and shifted him to some undisclosed location. Later, his body was found in the area on Friday. Several pro-government tribal elders have been killed in target killing during the last two years.

The TTP Mohmand chapter spokesman Sajjad Mohmand told reporters that they had killed him for having close links with political authorities. He said the man was going to head a tribal lashkar against Taliban.

The political agent Mohmand visited Sher Khan’s house to offer condolences to the bereaved family. He also announced Rs100,000 as compensation and job for one of the familiy members in Khasadar force. In another incident, a six-year-old girl was killed when a landmine planted by suspected persons in front of her house exploded.

Meanwhile, body of Jasreen son of Motasir was recovered from river Kabul. He along with seven other people was kidnapped by unknown men from Safari area of Mitchini some one month ago. Body of one of the kidnapped persons was found in the same place some one week ago while six persons were still missing.

SURRENDER: About 63 wanted militants laid down arms and surrendered to the security forces. Sixty-two of them belonged to Dwaizai, tehsil Pandyali and one to Sagai area of tehsil Safi. They surrendered to the security forces at a jirga at Dwaizai with peace committee head Malak Ibrahim in the chair. APA Rasool Khan, FC Col Asad and other functionaries were also present on the occasion.
