Two killed in accident FATEHJANG, April 20: Two persons were killed and seven others sustained injuries in an accident on the Rawalpindi Road some 6km from here on Wednesday. According to police sources, a passenger van coming from Rawalpindi collided with a vehicle near Hattar. As a result driver Ikram and Chandi Bibi died on the spot.

The injured persons were identified as Mussarat Bibi, Resham Bibi, Shaheen Bibi, Nageena Kiran, Rahampur, Zahid and Amal Zardar. The patrolling police reached the spot and shifted the bodies and injured persons to the THQ hospital.— Correspondent Man stabbed to death ATTOCK, April 20: A man was stabbed to death by the relatives of a girl with whom he had fallen in love.

Police said here on Wednesday that Safeer Ahmed reported to police that when his young uncle Sajid Mehmood went to meet the girl on her invitation the relatives attacked him with dagger injuring him seriously. He was rushed to the hospital but he could not survive. — Correspondent Trade fairs in Islamabad ISLAMABAD, April 20: Trade fairs and catalogue exhibitions need to be organised in the federal capital as such activities will not only facilitate entrepreneurs and business community but also highlight the soft image of the country.

In a meeting held at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Wednesday, the members stressed on organising national and international-level trade fairs in Islamabad as well as in other parts of the country.

ICCI President Mahfooz Elahi said China, the UAE and Germany were classic examples where well organised trade fairs were attended by businessmen from around the world.

He was of the view that trade fairs and catalogue exhibitions provided a significant opportunity to exporters to enhance their brand and product visibility and promote new and existing products.

The members of the business community said the government should benefit from the improved law and order situation in the country, particularly in the federal capital.

They said the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan and the Board of Investment should jointly facilitate the flow of foreign direct investment by establishing partnerships between businesses in Pakistan and the international community. — A Reporter Convocation at F.G. college RAWALPINDI, April 20: The 24th convocation of F.G. Postgraduate College Kashmir Road was held here on Wednesday and 328 students were awarded graduation and post-graduation degrees.

The college awarded degrees to 202 graduates in the discipline of humanities and 114 in science disciplines. Seven students were awarded MA English degrees and five students bagged MA Urdu degrees.

The college honoured three students for showing extraordinary performance in the University of the Punjab exams. Urooj Tanveer was given medal for securing first position in the college in MA Urdu. Bushra Saman and Shahrukh Zaheer were honoured for obtaining first positions in the college in BA and BSc exams respectively.— Our Reporter African culture showcased ISLAMABAD, April 20: Grand finale of the African studies classes comprising eight seminars was organised by Area Study Center for Africa, North and South America on Wednesday.

Starting from pre-history to the current day, the seminars traced the developments in African culture, literature, politics, and economy. Each session was well supplied with reading material and other information relevant to each topic.

The seminars generated much knowledge through class activities that further added to the academic value of the seminars.

The finale embraced diverse African cultures with their vibrant displays comprising of African handicrafts, artifacts, video documentaries, attire, and cuisine, in general. Students, faculty members, diplomats, officials from different universities of Islamabad attended the finale and took interest in visiting the exhibition. The students of the seminar series were awarded certificates on the successful completion of the African studies course. — A Reporter Smuggling bid foiled TAXILA, April 20: The bid to smuggle three truck-load of timber from Hazara to Punjab was foiled and six alleged smugglers were arrested by the local police on Wednesday.

The sources said that the police arrested alleged smugglers identified as Waseem Akhter, Khan Gul, Zafran Khan and Atif Abbas who were smuggling timber from Hazara to Punjab through three trucks (bearing numbers GLT- 5670, GLT- 6932 and GLT-786).

The two other persons later identified as Zafar Iqbal and Shabbir Hussain traveling in a car (bearing number 3039) as facilitators were also arrested.

The police confiscated the timber and four vehicles and registered a case against the accused and started further investigation. — Correspondent
