Aqeel drops set but moves ahead

ISLAMABAD, Oct 16: Top seed Aqeel Khan dropped a set Wednesday but sprung back to defeat his younger brother Jaleel Khan in the Federal Cup Tennis Championship at Islamabad Club Wednesday.

Aqeel fell behind and lost the opening set 2-6 before winning the next two 6-2, 6-1 for a first round victory.

In his second round match, also played Wednesday, Aqeel eliminated Ali Hasan Baghat 6-3, 6-1 without any difficulty.

Fourth seed, Rashid Malik, a former Davis Cup player, had an easy match against Peshawar’s Manzoor Khan whom he brushed aside 6-0, 6-1.

Muneezah Shahid scored the first upset in the ladies event knocking out seventh seed Huma Ajam 6-1, 7-6 to make the quarterfinals.

Also going through were Mariam Rahim, Mehvish Chishtie, Nosheen Ehtisham, Sylvia Lokollo, Nadia Rahim, Seher Khawaja and Maira Rahim.
