Rs1m for drains’ desilting released

RAWALPINDI, Oct 15: The Tehsil Municipal Administration has released Rs1 million for the de-silting of big drains in Rawalpindi, official sources told Dawn here on Tuesday.

All the big drains, passing through Dhoke Khabba, Asghar Mall Scheme and Kartarpura, will be cleaned, for which the contract has also been awarded. The formal work will be started on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a meeting was held at the office of Tehsil Nazim to discuss sanitation situation in the city, growing encroachments and rectification of road signals. The meeting was presided over by the district Nazim, Raja Tariq Kiani.

The district nazim directed the tehsil officials to conduct a deep de-silting of the drains. The meeting was informed that talks were being held with the trader organisations for the removal of encroachments.
