HYDERABAD, Oct 15: The Qasimabad police seized seven grenades, five compulsions of a rocket launcher and a Kalashnikov from a plot in Qasimabad on Monday night.

The town police officer (TPO), Qasimabad, Irshad Rajput, told newsmen on Tuesday that the arms and ammunition had been buried in the plot and were recovered when Ayub Deeshak, who was in police custody, informed the police about it.

The police had arrested Ayub Deeshak after he threw a live grenade on the residence of his brother, Ghulam Rasool, following a dispute over a plot. The police blew the grenade on the spot where it was found.

Ayub Deeshak has been remanded in the police custody by the court for 14 days.

The TPO said that five compulsions of a rocket launcher were also found in the bag which had been buried on the plot.

Ayub Deeshak, who was present at the Qasimabad police station, told newsmen that the arms and ammunition belonged to his brother, Bahawal Deeshak, who was dead, and Dr Qadir Magsi, chairman, Sindh Taraqqi Passand Party.

Bahawal Deeshak, was the prime accused, besides Dr Qadir Magsi, in the Hyderabad carnage case (Sept 30, 1988). He had fled from the sessions court, Hyderabad, on Oct 18, 1997.

He was gunned down in a police encounter in Nawabshah.

Ayub Deeshak accused Dr Qadir Magsi of having taken away a large quantity of ammunition from the plot in a vehicle after he was released from prison.

He said that his father had sold a G-3 rifle to a dacoit, Mumtaz Mari, through another dacoit, Shah Hussain Shah.

He stated that he was told by his cousin at the police station that Ghulam Rasool had disclosed everything to the police about the ammunition that had been recovered.

He confessed that he had thrown the first hand grenade on the residence of his brother because of a dispute over the plot.

The TPO rejected the statement of the accused pertaining to Dr Magsi.

He, however, said that if any solid evidence was found against Dr Magsi, then investigations would be carried out against him.
