Hameed scores easy victory

ISLAMABAD, Oct 14: Former Davis Cup player Hameedul Haq made a impressive winning start in the men’s singles Monday as the Federal Cup Tennis Championship opened at the Islamabad Club.

Hameed scored an easy 6-2, 6-1 victory over Mahmood Khan in the first round to advance to the second stage in the tournament that also features Davis Cup players Asim Shafik and Nomi Qamar.

Nomi, the third seed knocked out Shahzad Samad Khan in straight sets 6-2, 7-6 while Asim was a comfortable 6-0, 6-3 winner against Pervez Khan.
