ISLAMABAD, Oct 13: The first ever web information and services portal of the government (www.pakistan.gov.pk) was launched on trial basis on Sunday.

Minister for Science and Technology Dr Attaur Rehman was the chief guest at the launching ceremony of the web portal. The trial period is two months.

Speaking on this occasion, the minister gave a brief detail on the project.

“In order to enable convenient citizen and public sector interaction, internet is a key medium for e-government initiatives around the world. The ‘Pakistan government’ project focuses on similar initiative as this is the face of the government to the world,” he added.

Under the project websites of different federal ministries/divisions have been integrated so that a single point of access can be available to citizens with a strong search facility for different types of information on the portal.

The minister said a total of 35 division websites had been made in addition to the portal.

These sites, he said, contained useful information for all potential users, both domestic and international.

“The information contained organizational details, rules, and procedures, persons’ contact numbers and their e-mail addresses, downloadable forms and date of interest to the general public.
