Narrow triumph for Jesus & Mary

LAHORE, Nov 12: Four matches were decided on the first day of the Lahore Inter-School girls basketball tournament at the ASIA School courts Monday.

In the most thrilling match, Convent of Jesus & Mary fought hard to beat Beaconhouse Model Town by the narrow margin of 18-17. Both the teams were locked at 10-all at the interval.

For the winning side, Aleena Durrani (4), Mehwish Kennith (3), Ifro Imtiaz, Asma Butt (2) and Mehrain (2) were the main scorers.

For the losers, Fatima Asif (4), Saman and Sana three points each and Saira Sarfraz (2) reduced the margin.

Salamat Academy defeated St. Andrew’s in a low-scoring encounter 6-4. The winners scored their all point in the first half to lead 6-2.

Rida, Khadija and Gul Feroze were the principal scorers for Salamat Academy. Sara Sulaman and Hira with two points each fought well for the losing side.

Asia American registered a facile 18-6 win over Beaconhouse Model Town after leading 10-3 at the half time. For the winners, Cybil scored seven points. She was ably supported by Bushra, Maria who added four points each. Sheharzad (3) was the other main scorer. For the losing team, Saira Sarfraz (3) and Saman Sami (2) were the chief scorers. LACAS defeated Cathedral III Cantt 17-11. The winners led the first half 11-6.

Bushra played key role for victory by scoring seven points. Fatima (4), Emin (4) and Mahrukh Faheem (2) were the other main contributors.

For the Cathedral School, Subhana fought well with seven points. Madiha and Mehwish added two points each.

Seven more matches will be played on Tuesday.
