FAISALABAD, Oct 6: The chief of the PPP (Parliamentarians), Makhdoom Amin Faheem, has warned the government and the Election Commission to stop backing PML-QA candidates otherwise there would be clashes between law enforcers and the masses on polling day.

Speaking at an election meeting at Hajiabad on Saturday night, he said the PPP would not allow the rulers to change the basic structure of the constitution.

He alleged that the state-controlled electronic media was presenting the people involved in the co-operatives scam and Mehran Bank fraud as ‘new talent’.

Former federal minister Aitzaz Ahsan said that PPP workers and leaders were being harassed by the police just to please the PML-QA candidates.

He said that Faisalabad DPO Zafar Abbas Luk who raided the election offices of PPP candidates and attempted to disrupt their election meetings would have to face the music after the general elections.

Punjab President Qasim Zia said that the PPP did not believe in deals and contracts as it had deep roots among the masses.

Punjab Secretary-General Rana Aftab Ahmed Khan regretted that the Election Commission was not taking any action on complaints that the state resources were being used for the election campaign of the PML-QA candidates. He alleged that the rulers were arranging inaugural ceremonies of various developmental project in the presence of the PML-QA nominees which was an open violation of the EC rules.

PPP’s divisional coordinator Raja Riaz and city president Imran Murtaza Khan also spoke at the meeting.
