HYDERABAD, Nov 12: The acting president of Pakistan Oppressed Nations Movement (Ponam), Mehmood Khan Achakzai, has said that ever since the creation of Pakistan, the oppressed nations had remained slaves and the basic objective of Ponam was to free oppressed nations from slavery.

He was addressing a gathering at the Taraqqi Pasand House at a reception hosted for the Ponam leadership after their return from the interior of Sindh on Sunday night.

He said that the parties and the leaders affiliated with Ponam were not struggling for their own interests but they were fighting for the rights of the oppressed nations.

He said the national identity of the oppressed nations had been destroyed and added that the Ponam was trying to restore this identity.

Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Ponam president Dr Qadir Magsi said that since 1843, all the oppressed nations, including Sindh, had been enslaved and added that at present Sindh was under tremendous pressure of outsiders.

He said that Karachi had been converted into an orphanage for the people of South Asia.

He said that the point of view of Ponam on this issue was that no outsider, including Afghan refugees, should be allowed to enter Sindh.

He alleged that through a secret deal the Pakistan People’s Party was being brought into power and asked what had Benazir Bhutto done for Sindh when she was elected the prime minister on two occasions.

The central general secretary of Ponam, Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah, said that Pakistan was a multi-nations state in which the oppressed nations had been deprived of their historical rights.

ADP BLAMED: About two dozen Nazims, Naib Nazims and councillors of different union councils of Nawabshah district led by the opposition leader in the Zila council, Syed Muneer Shah, of Nawabshah Awami Ittehad, have accused the Awami Dost Panel (ADP) members of the district council and Nawabshah tehsil council of highhandedness, violence and corruption.

Speaking at a news conference at the Hyderabad Press Club here on Monday on behalf of the elected representatives of Nawabshah Awami Ittehad, Syed Muneer Shah and deputy opposition leader of Zila council Abdus Sattar Qureshi said that the majority party (Awam Dost) had violated every rule in the book and was guilty of corruption, nepotism and misuse of funds.

Abdul Sattar Qureshi said that after the election, they had offered full support to the majority party and assured that they will not create any problems or embarrassment and make all efforts to run the houses in a proper and civilised manner. He, however, regretted that this goodwill was not reciprocated.

He said that the Awam Dost Panel resorted to hooliganism, nepotism and corruption, which had no parallel in any district of Pakistan.
