KARACHI, Nov 12: The Marine Fisheries Department (MFD) is working on a plan for the development of aquatic resources in the country.
This was stated here on Thursday by MFD director general Commodore A. Q. Raza at a briefing to a delegation of the Pakistan Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (PCSIR).
A six-member PCSIR visited the MFD office at the Karachi Fish Harbour and inspected its Laboratory. On this occasion the director general informed the delegation about the research work so far being done in the development of marine and fresh water fisheries.
PCSIR director general Dr SM Abdul Hai said Pakistan had immense fisheries resources which, if fully exploited, could contribute significantly to the economy of the country.
He extended full cooperation on behalf of the council for further research in this field, saying that the PCSIR would soon come up with concrete suggestion and proposals for development of aquatic resources on scientific lines.
The delegation also visited the head office of the Karachi Fisheries Harbour Authority.
