KHAIRPUR, Oct 2: The three National Assembly and six provincial assembly seats from Khairpur will mainly be contested between the People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) and Pa-kistan Muslim League (F) candidates.
Some candidates of the Sindh Democratic Alliance (SDA) and some independents may also turn out to be “vote spoilers” in some of these constituencies.
The Muttahida Qaumi Move-ment (MQM), with the support of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), is contesting from this district for the first time since its inception.
The overall electioneering, however, appears to be low- key.
Ten candidates are contesting from NA-215 (Khairpur-I), including Manzoor Hussain Wassan (PPP), Habibur Rehman Shaikh (PML-F), Sher Moham-mad Phulpoto (independent), Allah Warayo Soomro (SNF), Abdul Qayoom Shaikh, Ghulam Haider Phulpoto (PML- N), Manzoor Hussain Ansari (MQM), Ghulam Qadir Mehar and Tahir Imtiaz Phulpoto (PML-F).
The constituency comprises of Khairpur and Kot Diji talukas.
Six candidates are in the run for NA-216 (Khairpur-II), which consist of Mirwah, Nara and Faiz Ganj talukas.
Major candidates here include Syed Sadaruddin Shah Rashidi (PML-F), Syed Jawed Ali Shah Jilani (PPP), Basheer Ahmed Bambhan, Shoukat Ali Rajpar, Mumtaz Hussain Sehto, Shaha-buddin Shah.
Seven candidate are contesting from NA-217 (Khairpur-III), which consists of Kingri, Gambat and Sobhodero talukas.
They include Syed Fazal Ali Shah Jilani (PPP), Syed Mahram Ali Shah (PML-F), Sardar Shah Dino Phulpoto (PML-N), Rahm-atullah Abbasi (independent), Ghulam Mustafa Sehto (independent), Nadeem Ahmed Has-hmi of Pakistan Awami Tehrik.
There are 17 contestants from PS-29 (Khairpur-I), which consists of Khairpur taluka.
The contestants include Syed Qaim Ali Shah (PPP), Zafar Iqbal Bilal (PML-Q), Tahir Imtiaz Phulpoto (PML-F) Sher Mohammad Phulpoto (independent), Ziaul Haq (MQM), Ghulam Haider Phulpoto (PML-N), Asadullah Maitlo (independent), Ambar Baloch (independent) and Syed Sagheer Hussain Zaidi (PML-F).
An independent candidate, Dr Chela Ram, has already ann-ounced to retire in support of Syed Qaim Ali Shah (PPP), while Abdul Qayoom Shaikh has withdrawn in favour of Zafar Iqbal Bilal (PML-Q).
Maulana Mir Mohammad Meeral, the local JUI leader, has also announced to support Zafar Iqbal Bilal (PML-Q).
Candidates from PS-30 (Kha-irpur-II) include Pir Sadaruddin Shah Rashidi (PML-F), Pir Mohammad Bachal Shah Jilani (PPP), Haji Mohammad Ali Abbasi (MMA), Sher Moha-mmad Phulpoto (independent), Abdul Qadeer Mahessar (MQM) and Mansoor Ahmed Shaikh (independent).
However, the seat will be mainly contested between Pir Sadaruddin Shah Rashidi (PML-F) and Pir Mohammad Bachal Shah Jilani (PPP).
Eight candidates are in the field for PS-31 (Khairpur-III), including Basheer Ahmed Bambhan (PML-F) Arbab Shahid Bambhan (PML-F), Shoukat Ali Rajpar (PPP), Shahabuddin Shah (independent) and Zafar Hussain Khaskheli (independent).
However, the main contestants are likely to be Basheer Ahmed Bambhan (PML-F) and Shaukat Ali Rajpar (PPP).
Eleven candidates are contesting the PS-32 (Khairpur-IV) seat.
Main contenders likely to emerge are Nawab Ali Wassan (PPP) Allah Warayo Soomro (National Front), Karim Bux Palh (PML-F) Sher Mohammad Phulpoto (independent) and Abdul Hussain Mari (PML-Q).
The Wassan group enjoys much influence in this constituency.
There are 17 candidates for PS-33 (Khairpur-V, taluka Sobhodero), including Syed Niaz Hussain Shah Jilani (PML-F), Zahid Ali Bambhan (PPP), Akhtar Hussain Laghari (independent), Shahabuddin Shah (independent) and Abdul Ghafoor Jiskani (independent).
However, the main contest is likely to be between Pir Niaz Hussain Shah Jilani (PML-F) and Zahid Ali Bambhan (PPP).
Sixteen candidates are in the field from PS-34 (Khairpur-VI), including Naeem Ahmed Kharal (PPP) Syed Sarkar Hussain Shah (PML- F) Abdul Latif Shaikh (SDA), Nadeem Ahmed Hashmi (Pakistan Awami Tehrik) and Mohammad Haroon Memon (independent).
Major contenders to this seat are likely to be Naeem Ahmed Kharal (PPP) and Syed Sarkar Hussain Shah (PML-F).
