ISLAMABAD, Oct 1: The government on Tuesday formed four sub- committees to study the outcome of changes recently introduced in the education sector in all provinces.
The sub-committees of the task force on education will review the changes made to upgrade the status of teachers, curriculum, text books and the examination system as well as the current education system in every province.
The minister for science, technology and education, Prof Attaur Rehman, presiding over an inter-provincial meeting, ordered to form these committees.
The sub-committees have been asked to review the standard of education at the secondary school certificate (SSC) and higher secondary school certificate (HSSC) levels after visiting each province for two to three days and holding consultations with provincial education departments.
The committees have been asked to come up with consolidated recommendations for improvement in the educational level. These recommendations will be presented in the next inter-provincial meeting for discussion and adoption.
The minister, during the meeting, said some provinces had recently introduced certain useful changes in the education system, but these changes should be studied by the task force.
He asked the provincial education ministers to benefit and learn from one another’s experiences and from the methods adopted by other countries. He said the task force should review the models of five to six relatively advanced countries before finalizing their action plan.
The meeting was briefed on the action plan prepared by the task force for improvement of standard of education at the SSC and HSSC levels. The participants were also informed about requirements of additional physical and human resource inputs and recommendations to make teachers more efficient. Issues related to curriculum and text books development, teachers education, and adoption of “O” and “A” levels in selected public sector schools were also discussed.
The first report of four think tanks formulated to improve education quality at different levels was also presented in the meeting.
