KARACHI, Oct 1: The KBCA, with the view to encourage builders, architects and engineers to construct beautiful buildings, has set up four committees to select three such buildings situated on M. A. Jinnah Road and Sharea Faisal.

The four committees, two each for M. A. Jinnah Road and Sharea Faisal, will undertake a survey of both roads, primarily select a number of such buildings, and after their evaluation, declare them the first, second and third most beautiful buildings of these thoroughfares for the awarding of prizes.

The move is aimed at encouraging all those who bring honour to the profession and add beauty to the city and comfort to occupants, KBCA sources said, adding that such a process will help in the thorough inspection of buildings, interaction with public and owners and in creating a healthy competition among builders and professionals to bring about improved structures.

The beautiful buildings will be selected on the basis of the size of plots and their age.

The committee which has been assigned the task of selecting beautiful buildings of M. A. Jinnah Road on the basis of their age is headed by former Mayor of the city, Abdus Sattar Afghani, and its members include Architect Yasmeen Lari, Engineer A. K. Loya, Karachi Cantonment Board’s executive officer, Saddar Town Nazim Farooq Faria, ABAD’s representative Engineer Zaheer Qaudri, while Controller of buildings Mohammad Shafique will act as its Secretary.

The second committee which will select the buildings of M. A. Jinnah Road on the basis of the size of plots will be led by Hussain Haroon and its members comprise Architect Misbah Najmi, Prof Dr Khanzada, Planner Arif Hasan, KCB’s executive officer, the Saddar Town Nazim and ABAD Chairman Hafeez-ur-Rehman Butt, while its secretary would be COB Qazi Arshad Jamal.

The committee which will select beautiful buildings of Sharea Faisal on the basis of their size of plots will be headed by Ardeshir Cowasjee. Its members include Architect Arshad Abdullah, Engineer Zaheer Mirza, Planner Islamuddin Siddiqui, Jamshed Town Nazim Ahmed Parekh, KCB’s executive officer, the Shah Faisal Town Nazim, ABAD Representative Anwar Gagai and Roland D’Souza, while COB Syed Ali Zafar Quadri will be its Secretary.

The committee which has been assigned the task of selecting buildings on the basis of their age will be headed by former MNA Babar Ghauri and its members are Architect Hafeez Habib, Engineer Ahmed Pervez Younusi, Faisal Cantonment Board’s executive officer, the Jamshed Town Nazim, the Shah Faisal Town Nazim and ABAD’s Representative Farooq-uz-Zaman, whereas COB Mumtaz Haider will act as Secretary.
