ISLAMBAD: Former attorney general Sardar Latif Khosa on Sunday has been nominated in principal to take office as the new Punjab Governor. Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, in this regard forwarded his recommendation of Khosa to President Asif Ali Zardari.

The position of the Governor of Punjab has been vacant since the assassination of Salmaan Taseer on January 4. Babar Awan, Latif Khosa and a few other names had been shortlisted for this post.

Gilani met with Khosa on Sunday, after which he conveyed to the media the decision to appoint Khosa as Governor Punjab. According to reports, Gilani sent notification of his decision to President Zardari who now has to give the final approval of Khosa's appointment.
