SUKKUR, Sept 28: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal believes that after the Oct elections, Gen Pervez Musharraf must adopt the constitutional process for remaining the president.

This was said by the MMA president, Allama Shah Ahmed Noorani, at a press conference here on Saturday. He was flanked by MMA candidates from NA-198, PS-1 and 2 (Sukkur), Maulana Asad Thanvi, Mateen Bandhani and Ghulam Rasool Qureshi, respectively.

Maulana Noorani said that there would be astrong reaction if the elections were rigged as free, fair and transparent elections were demand of the nation.

He said that the MMA would never confront the army as it would suit India, which had amassed its troops on the borders.

He criticized the ongoing tours of Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro and his announcement of grants in the name of development. He termed it a part of the election campaign in favour of the ‘king’s party’ and the favourite candidates of the government.

He said that the Constitution provided a principle for the election of the president, under which members of the National Assembly and the four provincial assemblies had to cast their votes.

He insisted that the MMA had not accepted the referendum and it had not legalized presidency of Gen Musharraf for five years.

He ruled out the possibility of postponement of the elections and added that the MMA was able to launch a movement if the elections were put off.

The alliance chief condemned the killing of seven Christians in Karachi and said that it was the work of some anti-state elements.
