GILGIT, Sept 27: The Northern Areas Education Department has introduced environment-integrated textbooks in the region’s schools from the start of new academic session.
This plan was a part of curriculum redevelopment process initiated by the department and funded by the Department for International Development (DFID), Erum Wali Khan, a consultant of the Northern Areas Education Project (NAEP), said.
She said that for the first time, environmental issues had been integrated into the primary-level textbooks.
The IUCN Pakistan in collaboration with the education department had developed and designed material for the books, and imparted training to the authors working on the integration methods, she added.
The department had introduced the curriculum redevelopment process in 1998 under the NAEP funded by the DFID.
KILLED: A man axed his daughter (G) to death in Kargah, 20km from here, on the suspicion of having illicit relations with Rauf Khan, police sources told Dawn on Thursday.
Adil also allegedly fired upon Rauf Khan, son of Jangi Khan, but the latter escaped the assault unhurt.
The police said they had recovered the axe and the kalashnikov from his possession.
WOMAN RECOVERED: A married woman, Zaibunnisa, resident of Taxila, was recovered from a kidnapper, Waqas Ahmed, in Konodas by the Gilgit police on Thursday.
The police said they had swooped on a house in on a tip-off and recovered the woman.
The Taxila police registered an FIR against Waqas for kidnapping Zaibunnisa on Sept 16.
ARRESTED: The Diamer police have arrested four proclaimed offenders wanted in cases of heinous crimes, DSP Nazrab Khan told Dawn on Thursday.
He said the criminals had been hiding in the forests of Diamer for several years after looting many people and killing Darel Middle School Headmaster Muhammad Nazim and his brother.
Those arrested were Samsar Khan, his son Asghar Khan, Haji Nauman and gang member, Abdul Qadeer.
The DSP claimed that the police had recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunitions from their possession.
CASE LODGED: The chairman of the Gilgit district council, Aliyar Khan, and another member of the council, Fida, have lodged an FIR against the council’s former chairman, Kalbe Ali, with the city police, for allegedly issuing a dishonoured bank cheque of Rs200,000 each to them.
They said the cheque had been returned because the account did not have any balance.
The former chairman has managed to obtain a bail before arrest from the Gilgit sessions court.
