KARACHI, Sept 27: Various social, political, professional and labour organizations observed a black day on Friday to protest against the killing of seven members of the Christian community in Karachi on Wednesday.
The organizations hoisted black flags on their office buildings and wore black arm-bands.
PTI: Mairaj Muhammad Khan and Azhar Jamil of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf condemned the killing at the Idara Amn-o-Insaf.
They said that government had failed in its basic duty of protecting the lives of citizens, specially minorities, despite its tall claims to the contrary.
The PTI leaders said that armed violence and killings on religious and sectarian basis were a shameful reflection of the growing intolerance in our society.
The PTI leaders demanded that the culprits responsible for the heinous crime be brought to book and given exemplary punishment.
APMA MEETING: A meeting of the All Pakistan Minorities Alliance (APMA) was held here on Friday to protest against the killings at Rimpa Plaza. It demanded immediate arrest of the terrorists involved in the attack.
The meeting offered prayers for the victims and decided that collective funeral prayers for them would be held at the St. Patrick’s Church in Saddar at 11.00 a.m. on Sunday, September 29.
It was also decided that a memorial service for the victims would be held on October 8. In this regard an application has been submitted to the Nazim Karachi for permission of the memorial service at Nishtar Park Karachi.
A meeting of the Action Committee for Civic Problems finalized the arrangements to hold a rally from the Karachi Press Club to Mazar-i-Quaid at 4 pm. The meeting constituted a committee to keep the rally peaceful. The meeting also urged the government to release Baseer Naveed.
PPP MINORITY WING: The minority wing of the PPP, Karachi division, staged a demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club on Friday to protest against the killings.
Addressing the occasion, press secretary PPP Karachi division said that the government was to blame for targeted killings of Christians. He demanded immediate arrest of the killers. — PPI
