Nazim escapes attempt on life

SIALKOT, Oct 8: Daska tehsil Nazim escaped miraculously when motorcyclists took aim at him near MR Link Canal on the Daska-Sialkot Road, on Monday.

Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmad Cheema and his friend were reportedly making for Sialkot from Daska by a private car when four motorcyclists standing near the bridge (Motra) opened fire on them. The car occupants remained safe.

Meanwhile, his gunmen coming in another car returned fire, making the accused flee in haste.

The motive behind the murder attack was reported to be an old enmity. Further investigations are underway.

Sialkot SSP Muhammad Tahir and Sialkot tehsil Nazim Muhammad Akmal Cheema visited the spot. The SSP has formulated three special teams for the early arrest of the accused.

Murder accused: A proclaimed offender (PO), involved in four cases of murder, reportedly committed suicide in Daska police station, on Monday.

Muhammad Iqbal allegedly killed four people in Thatta Lakhi village some four months ago. The police declared him a PO when he disappeared after the brutal acts.

Bambanwala police a week ago arrested him and sent him to the Daska police station. The accused reportedly hanged himself with a water pipe in the lockup toilet at 4am.

Sialkot SSP Muhammad Tahir and Daska DSP Amaid Karim Butt visited the station following the incident.

ACCIDENT: Two youth were killed while as many sustained injuries in an accident near Jassarwala village on the Daska-Sialkot Road, late Sunday night.

Four friends were reportedly on their way back Daska from Sialkot after attending their friend’s marriage ceremony when their car (GAK-2292) collided head-on with a tractor-trolley.

Shehraz Akbar, 21, who was driving the car, and Bakhtiar, 22, died on the spot while Amanullah and Ijaz sustained serious injuries. The injured were taken to the Daska Civil Hospital and then shifted to the Mayo Hospital, Lahore in unstable condition.

Daska Saddar police have registered a case against the driver who fled in the dark and impounded the tractor-trolley.
