Windstorm, rain hit Lahore

LAHORE, Sept 24: Rain followed by a windstorm broke the spell of hot and dry weather in the city on Tuesday afternoon.

The rain started at around 4:15pm and continued till 5:30pm. It was heavy in areas around Jail Road and light near the airport and Jallo. The downtown and Shahdara received the rain at around 7:30pm.

According to the Met office, the rain and the storm having a velocity of 70.8km per hour dropped the temperature to 27 degrees Celsius which was 33 degrees C during the day.

By 6pm, the Met office had recorded 5mm rain at the airport, 10mm at its Jail Road observatory and 4.4mm at Jallo. Light rain was also reported in Sargodha, Astore, Gilgit, Rawalpindi and Skardu.

The Met office has forecast more light rain in various cities of Punjab, including Lahore, the NWFP and the Northern Areas during the next 24 hours.
