KARACHI, Sept 24: An unidentified young man committed suicide in the basement of a highrise on M. A Jinnah Road on Tuesday night.

The man, who was in his mid-20s, apparently hanged himself from the ceiling in the basement of Sea Breeze Medical Centre situated on M. A. Jinnah Road.

His body was sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem, police said.

The dead man had not been identified till our going to press.

CARJACKING: Nineteen vehicles — eight cars and 11 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Tuesday, police said.

Four cars were hijacked. Four others were stolen.

Six motorcycles were hijacked. Five others were stolen.

Police also claimed on Tuesday to have recovered four cars (ADG-449, JL-5067, CK-0073 and V-0395) and two motorcycles (KAV-7507, KGS-1243) in the city.

SHOT DEAD: Bandits shot two men to death at different places of the city on Monday night.

Three armed men came to a milkshop in Machhar Colony and demanded cash from the shopkeeper, Zafar Iqbal, on late Monday night. When the shopkeeper put up resistance to the bandits, they opened fire on him and got away with Rs800 from the shop, leaving the shopkeeper in a pool of blood.

The shopkeeper was rushed to Civil Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Two armed men shot dead a minibus driver in Saeedabad on late Monday night. The armed men boarded a minibus in Nai Abadi area. As the two bandits were robbing passengers of cash and valuables, the bus driver, Saifur Rahman, tried to put up resistance to them. The bandits opened fire on the bus driver and escaped.

The bus driver died on way to Civil Hospital, police said.

SHOOTOUT: Police arrested four suspects after a brief shootout with them in Buffer Zone on Tuesday.

Police signalled a vehicle on which four suspects were travelling in sector 11-C to stop, but they opened fire at police and tried to escape.

Police returned the fire injuring two of the suspects, Abbas and Siraj. They had been admitted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, police said. Police also arrested the other two suspects, Mohammed Ali and Abdul Jabbar.

Two pistols were recovered from their possession, police said.
