ATTOCK, Sept 23: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) has vowed to introduce the Islamic system in the country if it is voted to power in the general election scheduled for Oct 10.

Maulana Shah Ahmed Noorani, president of the MMA, a conglomeration of six politico-religious parities, said at a press conference here on Friday that all religious parties had joined hands to end religious extremism and work for sectarian harmony for the progress and prosperity of the country.

Maulana Noorani said the goal of the MMA was not power but restoration of what he called “Islamic identity”. He alleged that Nazimeen were being used in the election process.

Replying to a question, he said that the alliance of religious parties was not confined to only the Oct election, but would continue till the enforcement of the Islamic system in the country.

Answering another question, Allama Sajid Naqvi said the district government system was working smoothly and there was no need to reverse it.

MMA Vice-President Allama Naqvi, district president Barkat Ali, district Vice-President Syed Khadim Hussain, district General-Secretary Maulana Mehmud-ul-Hassan Toohidi, Information Secretary Raja Tajjumal Gohar and a candidate for National Assembly, Hafiz Saeed Ahmad, were also present at the press conference.—APP
