MOSCOW, Sept 22: A Muslim leader in Chechnya’s eastern Kurchaloi region and his daughter were gunned down by rebel guerrillas on Saturday, the ITAR-TASS news agency reported.
Guerrillas shot deputy chief of the regional religious administration, Yakub Dzhamalkhanov, and then his daughter when she pleaded with them to spare him, local officials said.
“The murdered scholar was a vocal opponent of Wahabism and that might have been the reason for his murder,” officials explained.—AFP
