KARACHI, Sept 21: The Karachi University Teacher’s Society (KUTS) on Saturday resolved to boycott all academic activities on the campus on Monday for acceptance of their demands.
A general body meeting of teachers was held at the arts lobby of the university to evolve a strategy in connection with their ongoing protest campaign against the indifferent attitude of the university administration.
Till Saturday the teachers observed boycott of classes after 12 noon, while examinations and evening programmes continued as usual.
Speaking at the meeting, held with Dr Riaz Ahmad in the chair, the teachers decided to boycott classes on Monday as according to them the governor of Sindh, despite making commitment, had failed to improve the campus situation.
“Our problems have not been addressed and we have lost confidence in the varsity administration, led by Dr Zafar Saied Saify,” they said, claiming that the special committee constituted to look into grievances of the teachers had also failed.
Mahmood Ghaznavi, S. M. Taha, Hina Khan, Dr Abdul Qadeer, Sohail Barkati, Prof Pervez Siddiqui and others spoke. Some of the speakers expressed dissatisfaction over the deans, as according to them they were endorsing certain controversial decisions taken in the past.
