GUJRANWALA, Sept 19: A tough fight is expected between Jat and Rajput biradaris in Naushera Virkan tehsil for NA-100 where PML-C chief Hamid Nasir Chattha and PML-QA’s Bilal Ijaz are in the run.

The PPP and the PML-N have not fielded their candidates reportedly due to non-availability of a ‘suitable’ candidate. It is learnt that the activists of both the parties will support Hamid Nasir Chattha.

The Mutahidda Majlis-i-Amal has allotted ticket to Ehsanullah Rajput and Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf to Pervez Ahmad Gujjar. Safdar Raza Mubarik is contesting as an independent candidate. But a close contest is expected between Hamid Nasir Chattha and Bilal Ijaz.

Mr Ijaz enjoys the support of his Rajput biradari. His father, the late Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmad, was elected thrice as MNA from this constituency. While Mr Chattha is contesting for the first time from this constituency.

It is learnt that village elders are trying to withdraw PTI candidate Pervez Ahmad Gujjar in favour of Mr Chattha.

POLLING STATIONS: At least 206 polling stations of Naushera Virkan tehsil have been declared ‘sensitive’ by the district returning officer.

The RO has sent a report to higher authorities for taking steps to maintain law and order during elections, it is learnt.

SUMMONED: A Naib Tehsildar has been summoned by the district returning officer for allegedly running the election campaign of a PML-Q candidate.

Sources said a PPP aspirant for NA-98 had approached the RO, District and sessions Judge Chaudhry Asad Raza, saying that Naib Tehsildar Mohammad Nasir Cheema had directed Patwaris and his other subordinates to persuade people into voting for the PML-QA aspirant for NA-98, former MPA Chaudhry Mohammad Azam Cheema, who had recruited him.

The judge issued notice to Naib Tehsildar and also directed the district revenue officer to bring the service record of Naib Tehsildar to the court on Friday.
