KARACHI, Sept 19: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board authorities have accused Dr Nadeem, Naib Nazim Union Council 5, Jamshed Town, of breaking a manhole of the trunk sewer and diverting the flow of the storm drain and stagnant rainwater into the trunk sewer.

In a letter to the town Nazim, the executive engineer (sewerage), Jamshed Town, has stated that Dr Nadeem has again broken the manhole and diverted the rainwater of the Sunday bazaar to the 42” dia trunk sewer at Green Belt, Mehmoodabad, which has overloaded it. Also, the pumps of Treatment Plant-II have been badly affected causing heavy losses to the KWSB.

He also referred to his earlier letter dated July 27, 2002, regarding a similar incident, and requested the town Nazim to warn the Naib Nazim of UC 5 strictly to stop this practice, as it destroys the entire system. The executive engineer further stated that in case Dr Nadeem did not stop the practice, he would inform the higher authorities about it. He showed inability to control the sewerage system in this situation.

After receiving the letter, the town Nazim asked the Naib Nazim to stop the practice, as it might cause the failure of the whole sewerage system. He also called for a report into this respect.—PPI
