KARACHI, Oct 8: The people of the city were faced with severe difficulties due to closure of the roads by the police as part of tightening the security measures around the United States and British consulates and the residences of foreign dignitaries.

A senior police official said the law and order scenario had suddenly changed in the city in the aftermath of the military strikes on Afghanistan and the police had to take strict measures to provide security to the foreign consulates and dignitaries.

Owing to the prevailing law and order situation in Karachi, the following arrangements for traffic regulation on four roads have been made:

Fatima Jinnah Road: The traffic on Fatima Jinnah Road from the junction of Avari Light Signal towards Cantt Station will not take left turn but will straight away go towards Metropole side.

The traffic from the side of Metropole Hotel or Fawara Chowk will not take right turn towards Fatima Jinnah Road. The traffic coming from the side of Lily Bridge and Cantt Station for Fatima Jinnah Road will be diverted towards Hoshing Chowk for further destination. Similarly, the traffic coming from Hoshing Chowk will not take left turn towards Fatima Jinnah Road.

Abdullah Haroon Road: Abdullah Haroon Road from Sindh Club Light Signal to Hoshing Chowk (near old Clifton Bridge) will be closed for all kinds of vehicular traffic.

The traffic coming from the side of Mehran Light Signal on Sharea Faisal and from the side of Club Road will be diverted from Sindh Club Light Signal and the traffic will go straight towards the PIDC and the traffic coming from the side of the PIDC will take left turn towards Abdullah Haroon Road for further destinations.

Similarly, the traffic coming from old Clifton Bridge will take either left turn towards Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road or right turn towards Hoshing Road and to Cantt Station.

Shahrah-i-Iraq & Hatim Ali Alvi Roads: The traffic on Shahrah-i-Iran up and down from Clifton Helipad to Two Swords and from Two Swords to Clifton Helipad and Hatim Ali Alvi Road from Clifton Helipad to Two Swords via Clifton Police Station will be closed for all kinds of vehicular traffic.

The traffic for Shahrah-i-Iran & Hatim Ali Alvi Road will go towards Kharkar Chowrangi on Khayaban-i-Firdosi.

The traffic coming on Khayaban-i-Iqbal for Shahrah-i-Iran & Hatim Ali Alvi Road will be diverted from Schon Circle and from Two Swords roundabout towards Zamzama Street for their destination, says a handout.
