PESHAWAR, Sept 17: The provincial cabinet has approved the establishment of NWFP Health Regulatory Authority by amending the NWFP Private Medical Institutions (Regulation of Service) Ordinance 1984 and incorporating it therein with the composition and functions, said an official press release on Tuesday.

It said that a retired judge or any other person of repute will be the chairperson of the newly-established Regulatory Authority. Two medical professionals (one each from public and private sector), one public representative, one journalist, will be its members and the Secretary Regulatory Authority will act as secretary.

A committee to be headed by the provincial law minister would set the relevant draft shortly. This was decided at a meeting held under the NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah at the civil secretariat on Tuesday.

The cabinet has approved the establishment of Health Regulatory Authority in order to cope with the mushroom growth of quackery in the province, said a health official, adding that the authority would also check the doctors who are doing their private practice along with institution-based practice at state-run hospitals.

PLOTS DRAW: The allotment draw of 9,631 plots at the Regi Model Township for the serving and retired provincial government employees will be held at the Nishtar Hall today (Wednesday).

A press release issued on Tuesday said that the NWFP chief secretary, Shakil Durrani, would be the chief guest.

ENTRY TEST RESULTS: The NWFP University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, has declared the results of entry test for MSc classes admission.
