EC seeks report on Nazim

ISLAMABAD, Sept 17: The Election Commission said on Tuesday it had asked the provincial government and the district Nazim of Jhang to submit their report on the allegations that the latter was using his position for getting his son-in-law elected as MNA from the area.

The EC pointed out that if the report/comments were not received within the specified period, the officials should be summoned in person to explain the allegations levelled in the application under reference.

Attaullah Khan, a resident of Garh Maharaja and a candidate for NA-91 Jhang-VI, alleged that Mahboob Sultan, his rival candidate, was son-in-law of Sultan Hameed, the district Nazim of Jhang.

The Nazim has recently released funds for development projects in the territorial limits of the constituency, which were allegedly blocked for the last many months.

The EC took up the complaint at its meeting on Sept 16 and told the provincial government through the chief secretary of Punjab and the Nazim to submit the report and comments within one week.
