KARACHI, Sept 16: The 25th general council meeting of the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) here on Monday called for developing linkages between scientific bodies and industries in order to bring the scientific researches in line with the community needs.
The chairman of the PCSIR, Dr Anwarul haq, who presided over the meeting, asked the scientists to focus on their research and development activities in accordance with the needs of society. He stressed the need for close coordination between scientific community and the industry.
Dr Anwar highlighted the economic benefits of different projects undertaken by the Council, and praised the role of scientists in this regard. He said the present government had recognized the importance of science and technology in development and progress of the nation and because of that a huge amount had been earmarked for the development of science and technology and welfare of scientists community.
He presented an overview of the research activities of the PCSIR and apprised the participants of the economic benefits of the various projects.
Dr Anwar hailed the scientists for their continuous efforts despite the financial constraints.
The PCSIR chief said the activities of Council had attained international level and various departments had been awarded ISO certification and international recognition.
The meeting adopted a resolution, praising the President of Pakistan and federal minister for science and technology for giving due status to S&T and allocating a sizable amount of funds for the sector.
Director, PCSIR Karachi Laboratories, S. Naeem Mahmood informed the meeting about new projects initiated by the Council and mentioned that those would help bring positive impact on country’s economy. He said the government had given due importance to science and technology and the PCSIR has started new projects, which would help bring positive impact on country’s economy.
Dr Saeed Iqbal Zafar presented an overview of the research activities of the PCSIR, adds APP.
Member (technology) Dr.M.A. Damani stressed the need for a close liaison with local industries.
Mr Sheheryar of the ministry of science and technology said for the first time in the history of Pakistan a huge amount of money had been allocated for science and technology sector, and “now our scientists should take up the challenge and work for the economic development of the country.”
