KARACHI, Sept 16: A judicial magistrate ordered on Monday an inquiry into a direct complaint against the chief of the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) and 19 others, including a senior superintendent of police, for involving an army officer in a Hudood case.
Magistrate Rahmatullah Moro ordered the SHO Darkhshan police station to conduct inquiry into the matter and submit the report before the court within 15 days.
Major Mohammed Zargham Mirza had lodged a direct complaint before the judicial magistrate for registration of a criminal case against 20 respondents, including CPLC chief Jamil Yousuf and A. D Khawaja, under sections 182, 500 and 506 of PPC.
According to the army officer, he was implicated in a false case by the respondents, who plotted a conspiracy to defame the Pakistan Army.
Those made respondents in the complaint include ASP Zaeem Iqbal, Lubna Tiwana, then SHO of the Women Police Station, inspector Abdul Hakim Bangash, Azhar Elahi and Sharf Memon.
LIFE SENTENCE: The Anti-narcotics Court, headed by Judge Ali Nawaz Pirzada, sentenced two drug traffickers to life imprisonment.
The judge also imposed a fine of Rs1 million each on Qais Khan and Haji Allah Noor, who were arrested on May 2, 1999 with 52kg heroin. They would have to undergo an additional three years’ rigorous imprisonment if they failed to pay the fine.
The drug traffickers were on their way when a party of the ANF intercepted them near NED University and seized the contraband from their Suzuki FX car.
Special Public Prosecutor Zaheer Ahmed Khan appeared on behalf of the state, and Shaukat Zubedi represented the accused.
Their third accomplice, Haji Ramzan, who had fled the scene at the time of the raid, was declared proclaimed offender.
