KARACHI, Sept 12: Commodore Syed Tayyab Naqvi was on Thursday re-elected chairman of the of the Fishermen Cooperative Society.

Tayyab Naqvi was unanimously elected at a meeting of the reconstituted board of directors of the society which was also attended by eight new government-nominated directors who were administered oath.

The board also re-elected Shafi Jamote as vice-chairman.

Expressing confidence in the leadership of Mr Naqvi, the board members said the reforms introduced by him in his first tenure would have a far-reaching impact on fisheries sector and well- being of the fishermen.

The board also approved the budget for 2002-2003. It also approved Rs2.5 million for the establishment of a 30-bed maternity hospital.

A newly-elected director, Zulfikar Yunis, told the meeting that the government hospital at Shamspir Island was being handed over to the society to make it operational.
