HYDERABAD, Sept 12: A mission of the European Union to observe the election process has said its sole objective is to observe the election process and not to interfere in the October 10 election.

The mission, comprising Manuel Sanchez De Nogues G of Spain and Alistair Robert Jordan of England, arrived here on Sept 9 and has started holding meetings with representatives of different political parties, activists of NGOs, election commission officials and returning officers.

Jordan told Dawn he was not supposed to disclose the details of the mission’s meetings with different delegations.

He said a consolidated report would be prepared after receiving reports from all over the country and that would be released.

He refused to say anything about any sort of complaints by political parties regarding pre-poll rigging.

He further said the mission members were not supposed to discuss anything with media at any stage during the election process.

A PML delegation, led by Din Mohammad, Hanif Siddiqui and others, called on the mission.

According to Siddiqui, the delegation told the mission the code of conduct was not being implemented and it had reservations over the 15 places specified for holding public meetings by the administration.

The mission members are scheduled to visit Badin, Mirpurkhas, Dadu, Umerkot, Nawabshah and Hyderabad.

ANP: Sindh Awami National Party president Qamoos Gul Khattak has directed district organizations of the party to set up three-member committees in each ward to work for the success of party candidates and other candidates for whom the party has announced support in the coming election.

He issued a circular letter to district organizers that action would be taken against those members who were found working against the party candidates.

He announced two committees, headed by provincial general- secretary Mohammad Farooq Bangash for Karachi and provincial vice-president Asmatullah Khan Mehsood for the interior of Sindh, to monitor the working of the party organizations and take disciplinary action against the delinquent members.
