KARACHI, Sept 12: International Literacy Day was celebrated here by the Directorate of Non-Formal Basis Education, Sindh, at a function held at the NJV Government Higher Secondary School. Professor Dr Mehboob Ali Shaikh, Provincial Coordinator Bureau of Curriculum, Sindh, was the chief guest.

Prof Mehboob appreciated the efforts of the directorate, and laid emphasis on the eradication of illiteracy from the province through fresh admissions to all out-of-school children, while the Director, Non Formal Basis Education, Mr Aijaz Baig Mirza, also called for the admissions of all out-of-school children, particularly those between the ages of five to 14 years. A speech competition was also held on the occasion. Amongst the pupils of various schools that competed, Saba Ameer, Master Nadeem, Tehmina, and Sonia Rahim were declared as winners.—PPI
