MUMBAI, Nov 10: A group of Muslim doctors in Mumbai plan to boycott drugs manufactured by US and British companies from next week to protest the killing of innocent civilians in Afghanistan, a doctors’ association official said on Saturday.

The executive body of the Muslim Medicos Association is drawing up a list of companies to be included in the boycott.

“Just as we condemned the killing of innocent people in the September 11 attacks in the United States, we also condemn the killing of innocent civilians in Afghanistan,” Doctor Azimuddin, secretary of the association, said.

“We will boycott medicines made by US and British companies because we want to send a message that we are protesting their action in Afghanistan,” said Azimuddin, adding that the boycott would take effect from Monday.

The association, formed with 12 executive committee members on Friday, hopes to rope in at least 5,000 Muslim doctors.—Reuters
