WHILE frequent loadshedding has made life miserable, the KESC seems determined to further aggravate the already strained situation by taking harsh measures. Early in the morning on Aug 26, a KESC truck reached 'Saleem Centre', North Karachi, and disconnected the main electricity line of the entire plaza for non payment of dues outstanding against some residents of the plaza.

The residents pleaded with the KESC staff not to penalise the other residents for the fault of some persons but they turned down their request saying, “We will disconnect the electricity line of all the people of the project even if one person is found guilty of not making payment of the bill”.

People also pointed out that since meters of each consumer is installed in the plaza, the line of the concerned defaulter should be disconnected and that there is no justification for disconnecting the lines of others.

However, the KESC showed no mercy. The whole plaza was plunged into darkness as no electricity was restored till midnight.

I fail to understand why the entire area be punished if some persons are found guilty of a misdeed. The KESC authorities should justify their act.
