RAWALPINDI, Sept 6: The Tehsil authorities here on Friday started the distribution of wheat bags in the drought affected areas and the whole exercise is expected to be completed within 10 days.
The Punjab government has provided 55,000 bags of wheat worth Rs50 million for the destitute persons and people affected by drought in the Rawalpindi district.
The assistance was later divided among all Tehsils to be distributed by the local government representatives and officials.
The Tehsil Nazim, Raja Hamid Nawaz, initiated the distribution in Union Council Lodhran.
While talking to this reporter, the Nazim said the wheat provided by the provincial government would be distributed among the people in wheat growing rural areas.
Mr Nawaz said almost 33 Union Councils in the Rawalpindi Tehsil would get the assistance.
Around 300 bags are planned to be given to each affected Union Council selected by the Revenue Department.
A total of 16,000 bags were given to Rawalpindi Tehsil.
According to the distribution formula, prescribed by the Punjab Revenue minister, Malik Mohammad Aslam, the local government officials would provide two trucks of wheat bags to each Union Council.
