KARACHI: Prayer leader shot dead

KARACHI, Sept 5: A prayer leader was shot dead in North Nazimabad on Thursday night.

Qari Mohammed Yameen, aged 25, was coming out of Madni Masjid in Block I in North Nazimabad after teaching Quran to children on way to the mosque on the premises of nearby Remedial Hospital, when he was intercepted by two motorcyclists who opened fire on him and sped off. He was hit by a bullet and fell to the ground.

He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Police said that the dead man was prayer leader at a small mosque situated on the premises of Remedial Hospital and taught Quran to children at nearby Madni Masjid.

Tension griped the locality after the killing.

CAR JACKING: Twenty vehicles — nine cars and 11 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Thursday, police said.

Three cars were hijacked. Six others were stolen.

Five motorcycles were hijacked. Six others were stolen.

ROBBERIES: Three robberies were committed in the city on Thursday, police said.

Unidentified men robbed a man of cash in Korangi Industrial Area.

Police said that Irshad Jamal lodged an FIR at the area police station that unidentified men robbed him of Rs50,685 and escaped on a motorcycle. Mohammed Tufail lodged an FIR at Rizvia Society police station that unidentified men deprived him of Rs23,948.

Mohammed Afzal was robbed of Rs4,000 in Soldier Bazaar.

FOOD POISONING: Five members of a family fell unconscious after they took dinner in their house in Awami Colony, Korangi, on Thursday night.

Latif, his wife Sabiha, son Waqar, mother-in-law Zareena and sister-in-law Salam fell unconscious after having dinner.
