LOS ANGELES, Sept 5: The US Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) said on Wednesday that more than one million people immigrated to the United States last year.
This total includes new arrivals to the United States, who obtained immigrant visas abroad through the Department of State, as well as persons who were already living in the United States and who became permanent residents by applying for adjustment of status.
A total of 1,064,318, persons legally immigrated to the United States, according to the INS.
