PARIS, Sept 4: Senior US defence sources have revealed that Undersecretary of Defence Douglas Feith will lead a delegation to Islamabad later this month to “revive” high-level consultative talks with Pakistan.
According to a source, the decision was taken jointly by the United States and Pakistan as a way of putting Washington’s defence ties with Islamabad “on a stronger footing”.
The presence of Mr Feith, a leading Pentagon policy specialist on anti-terrorism, in Islamabad was made necessary, says the source, by increased Pakistani concerns that the United States is enhancing its defence ties with India.
Officials in Washington said Pakistan had expressed an interest in undertaking joint training exercises with the United States and in acquiring more arms.
