KARACHI, Sept 4: An unknown suspect was shot dead, while a tanker driver and two Rangers personnel were injured in an encounter on the New M. A. Jinnah Road on Wednesday night.

Police said that two suspects were trying to snatch a motorcycle from Zeeshan in front of the Muslimabad hydrant near Dawood College. Meanwhile two officials of Rangers stationed in the premises of DCET stepped out of the premises and witnessed the ongoing struggle between Zeeshan and the bike-snatchers.

The two rangers raised alarm. The suspects opened fire at them and tried to flee. The rangers returned the fire killing one suspect on the spot. The other suspect managed to escape. During the crossfire the two rangers and a water-tanker driver, identified as Irshad, were injured.

The injured driver and the dead body were taken to the Civil Hospital for treatment, while the rangers were shifted to the PNS Shifa for treatment.

Police and Rangers cordoned off the entire locality and launched a search for the suspects.

KILLED: The body of Syed Mohammad Madassar was found from Bengali Street near Khatri Masjid, Juna Market, on Wednesday morning.

An unknown caller had informed police on 15 about the body lying. Police reached the spot and shifted the body to the Civil Hospital Karachi for postmortem examination. The hospital sources said the victim had received a bullet in the head.

According to police, Syed Mohammad Madassar, aged 25, son of Syed Mohammad Yousaf, councillor UC-3, Kharadar, was called out of his house on Mohammad Shah Ghazi Street, Kharadar, by some unknown persons at 11:30 pm on Tuesday night. Since then his whereabouts were not known.

Following the news of Madassar’s death, commercial activities in UC-3, were suspended. A case against unknown persons has been lodged by the councillor at the Napier police station.

KILLED: A shopkeeper was shot dead by robbers in Landhi on Wednesday evening.

Police said that two unknown motorcyclists came to a # Ghousia General Store in Landhi near the terminus of bus 4-C. They demanded cash from the shopkeeper, Javed Ahmed, aged 26. As he put up a resistance, they opened fire and escaped. The victim was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, but he died on way to the hospital.

Following the incident, tension griped the entire area and enraged youths forced the shops and other commercial concerns to close.

A spokesman for the Mohajir Qaumi Movement said that Javed Ahmed was a member of the party’s election cell and had fallen prey to a terrorist attack. However, according to police the victim had no political affiliation.

Conductor dies: Conductor of a school van was died and several schoolchildren sustained injuries when the school van collided with a passenger bus in North Karachi on Wednesday morning.

Police said school van (CE-9244) was hit by a passenger bus (JA-1019) of route 4-L in front of the Edhi Centre.

As a result, the van conductor, identified as Anwarul Haq, 40, died on the spot while at least 18 children received injures.

Police said school van driver escaped from the spot after the accident.

The children were taken to the various private hospitals by their parents for treatment.

In Mauripur, Ayesha, 12, died in an accident in Mauripur.

Ayesha was crossing the main road with her mother when she was hit by a speeding truck in front of Ghulam-i-Abbas School. Her mother also received injuries.

Sharon Mashi, 12, died in a hit-and-run accident on Sharea Faisal.
