ISLAMABAD, Sept 2: The District Development Committee (DDC) on Monday approved various uplift schemes for the capital under the Khushhal Pakistan Programme (KPP) at a cost of Rs100 million.

The development schemes were approved at a DDC meeting which was held here at the Deputy Commissioner Office.

The meeting reviewed the progress of ongoing schemes. The committee approved 21 water supply schemes, costing Rs66 million, for the rural areas of Islamabad Bobri, Shah Allah Ditta, Talhar, Mira Chappar, Harno Thanda Pani, Gokina, Kirpa, Sihala, Chaudhrian, Golra, Karlot, Jagiot, Tumair, Langra, Jhangi Syedan, Khanna, Chuchkaal, Bani Gala, Maloot Phase-II, Alipur Farash Phase-II, Chenol and Sihala Khurd.

The committee directed the SDO Wapda to immediately provide electricity connections to five tubewells for which payment had already been made under the Annual Development Programme so that relevant water supply schemes could be completed.

It approved construction of 11 bridges in different areas like Bhara Kahu, Simly Dam Road on Nullah Kurang, Kuri Pindori Road, Kuri Pindi Bagwal (Gumrah), Sihala Kurd Road (Soan River) and Kuri Tarlai Road (Korang).

The meeting was informed that repair and maintenance of 54 school buildings in the rural areas would be completed by September 15 at a cost of Rs10 million.

The work includes provision of water supply, sanitation, construction of boundary walls and toilet facility.

The committee was informed that the project of electrification of 11 villages would be completed by the end of the current month at a cost of Rs7 million. These villages are Siri Saral, Dhoke Sufi Allah Ditta, Dhoke Adalat, Dhoke Habib, Satti Town, Madina Town, Chak Thoob, Tumair, Talhar, Wahidabad and Chak Nasrai.

The DDC convened a special session with all administrators of 12 union councils of Islamabad to evolve a strategy to deal with the issue like encroachments and over-lapping of development work in the rural areas.

The local government department Islamabad was directed to undertake a comprehensive inspection of development schemes along with the members of DDC to ensure equality of work and if these schemes were found below standard, the security deposited by the contractors should be confiscated and it should be utilized to meet the standard.

The deputy commissioner said priority was being given to rural roads, water supply and sanitation schemes under the KPP.

The meeting was also attended by members DDC including Dr Perveen Ahsan, Malik Fateh Khan, Raja Mohammad Aslam, Asghar Ali Khan, Sahibzada Nehmatullah and Saboohi Changez.
