HYDERABAD, Sept 2: Like other parts of the country a three-day anti-polio campaign is being launched in the sensitive parts of Hyderabad District from September 3-5 to vaccinate at least 666,668 children upto the age of five years.
The district has been divided into three sectors where 1,395 mobiles and 220 stationary teams will administer polio drops to children. Besides, 164 area in charges, 34 zonal supervisors and nine Taluka supervisors have been deputed to assist and monitor the overall situation so as to make the campaign a success.
According to the provincial health department, no case of polio has been reported throughout Hyderabad District since January 2002 but intensive efforts are being made to maintain zero level for at least three years.
To declare Hyderabad as a polio-free district, the district Nazim, Hyderabad, Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman, and the DCO, Hyderabad, Mir Hussain Ali, have appealed to the citizens of Hyderabad to cooperate with the anti-polio mobile teams and get their children vaccinated so that the status of Hyderabad as a polio-free district could be achieved.
LUMHS: Meanwhile, the vice chancellor, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro, Prof Jan Mohammad Memon, launched an anti-polio campaign at a simple ceremony held at the Jamshoro dispensary.
WHO representative Dr Dominicina, Prof Rafique Ahmed Soomro, Dr Hussain Bux Kolachi, Dr Ashfaque Bhutto, and Dr Sawan Hingoro were present on the occasion.
At least 60 doctors and students of the university will administer polio drops in Jamshoro and Hyderabad.
Prof Memon announced that special arrangements had been made at the university hospital to provide medical treatment to polio-effected children and other patients.
